Three-Door Fiesta Scrapped
The Ford Fiesta is officially losing its three-door body style, as well as its various van versions. The American automaker has already removed the options from its price lists, with their production to be suspended at the Fiesta plant in Cologne, Germany during the summer. Existing orders will, however, be honored and will be delivered as normal.
The Fiesta has been a UK favorite for a long time. Indeed, it was once the nation’s best-selling car for 12-years in a row. Nevertheless, it wasn’t immune to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and supply-chain issues. Last year, the Fiesta actually ceased to occupy a spot in the UK’s top ten selling models. The Puma has taken its place as Ford’s best-selling model in the country.
Simplifying the Line-Up
A spokesman for Ford mentioned that the end of the three-door Fiesta was a product of simplification. They said, “Ford is simplifying the Fiesta line-up by focusing on series, packs, and features that customers want – and discontinuing the ones that are less in demand. Fiesta will continue to be offered as ST-Line, ST, Active, Titanium and Trend”.
Given the rather abrupt fall from grace that the Fiesta’s experienced, its future in general remains far from clear. Ford’s Cologne plant is being converted into an EV manufacturing plant. There, the company will produce all-electric SUVs in the shapes of crossovers and mid-sized models. Perhaps in the company’s mind, then, the Fiesta has simply very nearly had its day…
