London Tops Car Crime List
London has topped a new car crime list, with nine out of ten affected postcodes falling inside its boundaries. Co-op Insurance has been analysing car crime data since 2016. It’s discovered that Lambeth has a vehicle theft frequency rate of 12.3%; the highest in the country. It’s followed by the likes of Kensington, Chelsea and Ealing.
The only area included in the top ten list that isn’t in London is Watford. The safest regions, in terms of car crime, included areas like Mid Devon, Denbighshire and Moray. Which, given the relative size of their populations and largely rural nature, aren’t particularly surprising.
‘Continuously High’
Paul Evans, from Co-op Insurance, commented on the the rising car thefts. He said, “car crime rates in London have remained continuously high. But it’s interesting to see that places like Preston and Stockport are also emerging hotspots in the North”.
Notably, thieves are targeting popular and relatively affordable models. These include some of the nation’s favourites, like the Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa. That’s not to say that thieves are losing interest in premium models though. The Range Rover Evoque is still topping the charts.
