Tesla’s Cybertruck Has Been Officially Delayed Until 2022
Tesla has announced that it’ll be delaying the production of its highly-anticipated Cybertruck, moving it back to 2022…
Cybertruck Delayed Until 2022
We’ve got bad news for Cybertruck enthusiasts, Tesla has officially delayed its launch; pushing it back to sometime in 2022. During a conference for the company’s Q2 2021 financial results, a spokesperson confirmed the delay. They said, “we are making progress on the industrialization of Cybertruck, which is currently planned for Austin production subsequent to Model Y”. No precise date for the truck’s launch, however, has been set.
Not longer after the announcement, Tesla’s online configuration website for the Cybertruck was updated. It now reads that production of the vehicle will begin at some point next year. It remains available for pre-order though, with a refundable deposit of $100 (the equivalent of around £72). As it stands, in excess of 250,000 people have placed orders for the Cybertruck; which boasts a stainless-steel-frame, bulletproof glass and (allegedly) a maximum towing capacity of more than six tonnes.
Americans Only?
Unfortunately, the news is unlikely to affect British or European consumers. As of now, the Cybertruck is intended solely for the US market. This is due to the lack of appetite for large pick-up tricks outside of the States, not to mention tough regulations in the EU that’d no doubt take issue with the Cybertruck’s angular shape; a likely hazard for pedestrians and other road-users should a collision take place.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, said “we are designing the Cybertruck to meet the American spec. Because if you try to design a car to meet the superset of all global requirements, basically, you can’t make the Cybertruck. It’s impossible”. All hope isn’t lost for non-American consumers, however. Musk has teased the possibility of launching a smaller, “Wolverine” version of the Cybertruck in other markets; although it’s not entirely sure what he means by ‘Wolverine’. Regardless, he insisted that any international version would “still be cool”, despite being smaller.
