New research has revealed where the nation’s slowest drivers are. So, if you’re the impatient sort, it’d probably be wise to avoid these areas…
Britain’s Slowest Drivers
Nowadays, if the subject of driver speeds comes up it’s usually because they’re excessive. However, some drivers drive too slowly; which can, on occasion, be as dangerous as it is frustrating. New research from Webuyanycar.com has revealed which parts of the country have the largest percentages of drivers who travel below the speed limit. Analysis of 1,800 drivers has revealed that Wolverhampton has the slowest drivers in the country; with 40% of drivers travelling below the speed limit. It’s followed by the likes of Brighton (33%), Durham (30%) and Aberdeen (25%). Conversely, Bristol and Portsmouth have the highest number of regularly speeding drivers – 33% respectively.
Richard Evans, head of technical services at Webuyanycar.com, said: “it’s great to see how many British motorists are conservative with their speed and are safety conscious behind the wheel. It’s also reassuring to see the majority of drivers always adhere to the rules of the road”.
A Pinch of Salt?
Quirky surveys are a tad suspect at the best of times. After all, any percent of 1,800 people can’t be seen as indicative of broader society. More importantly, if 40% of Wolverhampton’s drivers are cruising below the limit we’re left with the notion that 60% of them are speeding; meaning it’s hardly somewhere to visit if you’re looking for a gentle, stress-free drive. We’d argue that it’s also difficult to celebrate between 25 – 40% of drivers actually obeying the speed limit! Ultimately, the speed limit is just that – a limit, not a goal. That said, safe drivers keep up with the flow of traffic and drive at a sensible speed in relation to the sort of road they’re on.
